The IPPO, a Dutch scale for nurses to rate the behaviour of psychiatric inpatients, was studied as to its reliability and sensitivity. 98 hospitalized psychiatric patients have been assessed at admission and discharge. Statistical analyses indicated that the IPPO has a good interrater reliability, a sensitivity for behaviour changes during the stay and that it reflects behavioural differences between diagnostic groups in a logical way.
