The little that is known about the sexual life of psychiatric patients points to a high prevalence of unsafe behaviour and of sexual dysfunctions, mainly due to psychotropic medication. As psychiatrists often do not (dare to) talk about sexual behaviour with their patients and researchers do not investigate sexual side-effects, it is strongly recommended to actively change this worrisome situation through psychiatric education and research.
