background New approaches on the development of adolescents focus on the strengths of the youngsters, such as their competences and whether they have a goal in their life. Previous theoretical models on antisocial behavior focused on risk factors, and only recently promotive factors and strength-based models are also emphasised. As such, adolescents play a role in their own rehabilitation process. These new approaches, compared to the older ones, enhance the possibilities for prevention of recidivism and psychiatric relapse for children and adolescents with antisocial behavior. In the presentations, quality of life, competences, promotive factors and maternal factors – all in relation to antisocial behavior and the prevention of recidivism – will be discussed.
aim At the end of this symposium the participants will have more insight into strengthbased models and the Good Lives Model in particular. Also, participants will gain insight into the functioning of promotive factors and the influence of these factors among groups of forensic psychiatric youngsters.
