contents of the workshop Nonviolentresistance (nvr) is a technique developed for use in families with aggressive children. This technique has been further modified for use in a ward setting with the aim of reducing violent incidents and the use of seclusion.
De Bascule (child and adolescent psychiatric centre) recently won a national public safety award for its use of nvr. The workshop sets out the principles of nvr and the techniques of nvr and explains how these can be used on a ward setting. The techniques can be used in other ward settings (e.g. on an adult ward) and in other residential settings.
format The workshop will include a short presentation on nvr followed by role-play to outline the techniques. There is a possibility to participate in the role-plays.
aim At the end of the workshop the participant will be able to understand the principles of nvr and will know how nvr can also be used to reduce aggression on a ward.
