explanation Relatively little is known about the phenomenology, cognitive functioning, social functioning and need for care in late life psychosis and bipolar disorders in the elderly. The most important research to date on these topics has been published by the group of prof D. Jeste of the California University of San Diego, usa. More recently two studies on these subjects have been started in The Netherlands in Amsterdam and Maastricht. The first results of these studies will be presented in this session and will be discussed with regard to the research on late life psychosis and cognition in late life bipolar disorder in the usa.
