Persons with subclinical depressions have depressive symptoms that do not meet the DSM-IV clinical criteria for a depressive disorder. Subclinical depressions are nevertheless relevant in light of the considerable consequences they have for the general well-being and psychosocial functioning of the people they affect and the elevated risk of a major depression they bring. Too little is known about the definition, the course and the treatment of subthreshold depression.
