In spite of all positive developments the psychiatrie hospitals stay on the level of treatment, living-climate, architecture and organisation-structure grafted on the 'hospital-model'. Recently the intermural living of patients comes up to discussion. We see in a 'living community' a clear alternative to the psychiatrie hospital. 'Normalisation' and 'thinning' can certainly be considered by designing alternatives. New living-experiments have been started in Noordwijkerhout, Wagenborgen, Munsterbilzen and Franeker.
New living-experiments are not only necessary for 'chronic' or 'long stay' patients but for all patients who are admitted.
