G.J. Zwanikken: Mental health clinic and first line care
The relations between first line mental health care and the mental health clinic depend on the subjective conceptions of behaviour disturbances of behaviour, the meaning of the relational context in psychiatrie disorders and the way of delivering psychiatric care.
A plea is made to give precedence to system-considerations not only in organizing the mental health
linic as a therapeutic milieu but above all in the clinician's reactions to the call for help, in singling out the unit of intervention and in planning strategies that prevent or shorten hospitalisation.
Mental hospitals have to be on their guard against ways of organizing mental health care that promote expulsion of indicated patients and isolation of the mental health clinic from the family and from open society.
