J. H. Blankstein: The forensic psychiatric clinic as a treatment instrument First some remarks are made on two interlocking aspects of the forensic psychiatric clinic; the enforced admission and the responsability of the clinic for social safety. Next some main features of our patients are mentioned:
the relational disturbance embedded in the familiy, the meaning of the delinquent act in the context of family history, low selfesteem, lack of interrelational trust, secundary narcissism. Different approaches for treatment are analyzed: two reality frontiers and the internal dialogue.
One reality frontier lies inside the clinic: sociotherapy as a quasi family situation, education and work treatment as fields of experimentation with one's own capacities. The other reality frontier is the outside world, a.o. the relations with one's family and partner, on which family therapy focusses. The internal dialogue is stimulated in the individual psychotherapy, safeguarded by its discretion, creative and expressive therapy and pastoral care. A reflexion on the emotional climate of the Fompe-clinic with its specific social codes and basic attitudes of the staff closes this article.
