Lack of adequate treatment for chronic alcoholics in the Mental Hospital ,,Huize Padua" at Boekel, Netherlands, stimulated the building of a separate inpatient clinic for addicts, at some distance from the basis hospital. Admission in this clinic aimes at the following three principles:
1 To collect the necessary diagnostic data in clinical observation for further treatment.
2 To begin with some special treatment.
3 To dishabituate the patient and release the critical social situation, caused by his alcohol abuse.
The importance of close co-operation between clinic and the mental health services for addicts was pointed out.
