Maxwell Jones laid the foundations of the `therapeutic community' ideology. He has great merit in raising the therapeutic meaning of the democratization in the explicit matter. The democratization of the psychiatric institution will increasingly develop further on two allied levels: relations between board and administration and in relation between personal and patients. On the first level democratization will tend to representation and participation, on the second level to participation alone.
In no way Jones' ideology does guarantee a development from 'hospital' to .therapeutical community'. A democratization ab absurdum even makes an impossibility for interception and treatment of special groups of psychiatric patients.
There only can be a question of 'therapeutical community' when four conditions are fulfilled:
1 Difference between a common (living-, working-, and leisuring time) and an individual treatment-structure.
2 Architectonic composition which creates a personal living: a human living, working and leisuring setting.
3 Differentiation of therapeutical manners.
4 Clientdirectedness organisation structure. The smalt living groups and their attendants ought to be all-important.
