Chronic psychiatric patients have been the focus of attention for some time. A broadly accepted definition of this population is, however, lacking. Although many professionals are of the opinion that rehabilitation of these patients is of great importance, here also a generally accepted definition is lacking. In this paper some proposals for both these concepts are put forward.
