The Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) is a selfrating scale developed specifically for use in the elderly. The research so far shows equal or slightly better psychometric results for the GDS as compared to the BDI, and clearly better psychometric results than the Zung. The authors investigated the Dutch translation of the GDS and the BDI.

Although there were only a few, and rather small differences, the GDS always had equal or better psychometric results than the BDI.
