In this article the possible effects of divorce on the children concerned are discussed. These effects can take on very serious proportions as is apparent from large scale studies into the subject. The consequences of the divorce for children in various age categories are considered and certain psychodynamic insights into the specific problems of these children are given. In conclusion it is stated that only a limited number of children, through an unfortunate concurrence of various circumstances, will experience serious problems due to the break-up of their parents.
