F. L. Wojciechowski: The Contingent Negative Variation (CNV) and Its Significante for the Diagnosis of Psychiatric Disorder
This article presents a review of the so-called CNV-phenomenon, i.e. a slow, negative potential change in the brain emitted under certain circumscribed conditions, with primary emphasis on clinical studies. It is recommended that future research concerns itself with differential diagnosis of schizophrenia, a particularly promising area. To open up such a potentially promising area. To open up such a potentially fruitful possibility requires the use of reasonably objective, reliable and valid diagnostic measures, standardisation of CNV research, and, quite importantly too, the guarding against artefacts arising from medication.
