Scientific concepts are influenced by the questions cne is asking. The classification concepts in psychiatry are descriptive concepts. Questions about the meaning of behaviour in a therapeutic situation need 'imperative' concepts which are a directive for acting. Within the group of childhood psychoses an outline is made of the descriptive character of some concepts and finally an imperative approach is elaborated.
