In connection with a delimitation of the concept of repression, primarily in a descriptive sense and secondarily in its psychodynamic working, a series of illustrations of this most important psychical defence mechanism is given.
Although there is an abundance of experiences of the intimate relationship between the nearly always quite emotionally determined repression and the fallacies and disturbances of remembering, there are scarcely hard-fact, experimentalpsychological data to demonstrate and elaborate more precise relations of affect and memory.
Modern neuropathological and neurophysiological models of memory however leave ample scope for new investigations into the well-known facts of the particular influence of emotions on memory and remembering.
