Dimensions of affectivity in depression and anxiety

M.T.G. Boon, F.P.M.L. Peeters

Dimensions of affectivity receive increasing scientific and clinical attention especially in depression and anxiety. In a previous article, theoretical backgrounds of and a self-report instrument (panas) for measuring these dimensions (positive and negative affectivity) were described. In this report, the results of a study in a clinical population using the panas are presented. The psychometric properties of the instrument are good. Consistent with predictions, both dimensions of affectivity were rated significantly different by depressed (n = 106) and anxious (n = 179) patients. Especially, differences in positive affectivity between both groups were large.
