Interpersonal psychotherapy for depression; a pilot study

M.B.J. Blom, E. Hoencamp, T. Zwaan

This article describes a pilot study of interpersonal psychotherapy for depression. Ten depressed patients (as diagnosed by DSM-III-R criteria) were treated for twelve weeks. Outcome measures were the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression, SCL-90 and CGI. Seven patients showed a good to moderate response after twelve weeks, four of which had a 50% or more on the HRSD. This outcome is a confirmation of the results with this form of psychotherapy obtained in the United States. A continu- ation of this kind of research is recommended.
