Military recruits with adaptation problems

J. Vereycken, D. Quina

Two well-kwown statements about soldiers with adaption problems have been investigated within a randomised group. First, we tried to find out whether these youngsters had been in contact with the court of justice or some form of psychiatry, if they had finished school, and if they came from a broken home. We noticed that these conditions were only applicable to a quarter of the investigated population showing maladaptive behaviour; this stereotype picture was not true at all for patients showing no such behaviour.

Secondly, the results of the investigation do not justify to say that personality disorders can be seen as a major explanatory factor for the maladjustment. Moreover, the authors noticed a lack of stability in the assessment of personality disorders by means of the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory.
