History and the subject as pertaining to the definition of the psychiatric field
Reviewing the old topic of the fundamental validity of psychiatry, the author seeks to define the psychiatric field from its description in the modern medical practice. Appreciation of the necessity of psychoanalytic theory leads to a definition in which the subject and historicity are essential.
