Psychiatry and psychoanalysis on the move: relevant issues

J. Ubbels

A wealth of data on the dynamics of subjectivity has been produced by psychoanalysis. The scientific processing of these data needs other criteria than those of the natural sciences only. In psychiatry this problem seems to be solved, as long as psychiatry is defined as biological. However, in the long run psychiatry will need a psychoanalytic psychology based on careful listening and empathy, subjectivity and intersubjectivity.
