The master-apprentice relationship in psychiatric residency training

Within the frame of the master-apprentice relationship a psychiatric resident is trained to be a worthy member of the profession, as well as an expert. Gaining expertise is a never ending process. Therefore the acquisition of learning skills in theory and practice has to be central in the training course. The conditions to achieve this aim are discussed.
