Short report

Instruments for general measuring in psychiatric practice

J.M. Havenaar, J. van Os, D. Wiersma

summary There is a marked increase in the use of measuring instruments for the assessment of various aspects of a patient's condition. The choice of instruments will depend partly on the purpose for which the instrument is to be used and on the time available. Generally one opts for short compact scales which provide useful information about appropriate treatment for the individual patient and give guidance about treatment in general. It is advisable to select instruments that can be integrated easily into the daily routine at a psychiatric clinic.
